child abuse treatment programs & groups

We strive to help clients through their process of healing to ultimately overcome the damaging effects of child abuse and reach a point of recovery that will last.

ChildSafe Colorado offers individual and group therapy designed to meet the emotional and educational needs of our patients and their families. Led by trained therapists, sessions are conducted in a warm and compassionate environment to make our clients feel welcome, comfortable, and heard.

Child and Adolescent Therapy Groups

The purpose of these groups is to help children heal from the effects of abuse and neglect in a safe environment with the support and encouragement of their peers. Topics covered vary based on the age of the children in each group but include things like communication, family relationships, prevention and growing up.

Adults Abused as Children Treatment

Abuse victims are at risk for psychological, emotional, social, and physical problems that can last into adulthood. But such adults can still be treated and helped. ChildSafe Colorado has developed a program specifically tailored for adult men and women who were abused as children or adolescents. We provide evaluation, individual, family, and group therapy for these survivors. The goal is to empower them with the skills necessary to heal from past trauma and build healthy, productive lives.

Adult Therapy Groups

Our therapy groups for adults include those for mothers of parental incest victims, adults who were abused as children, and a parenting support group. Each group has curriculum focused on healing and improving the lives of group members with peer support.

Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback, also called EEG biofeedback, is a type of treatment that teaches the brain how to regulate itself on a nervous system level. A real-time display is used to monitor brain activity. Optimizing the functioning of the brain, and thus the nervous system, has many positive effects. Neurofeedback is an important part of ChildSafe Colorado’s comprehensive approach to trauma treatment.

Play Therapy

Play is imperative for healthy development in all children. Play therapy allows children to freely and safely express their thoughts and feelings using the most natural form of communication to them. In the playroom, toys help children recreate the experiences with which they are struggling and help them move toward emotional healing.

Clinical Consults

Our clinical staff are available for consults on other child abuse cases in the community as requested.

In-Service Training

We provide training/staff development for a wide range of needs, where professionals are trained and discuss their work with others in their peer group. Contact ChildSafe Colorado to create a training program to meet your specific needs. Some examples of trainings could include responding to traumatized children; understanding the dynamics of child abuse and domestic violence in families; and supporting non-offending caregivers in the child abuse system.
